Stand with the people of Afghanistan this Human Rights Day

We need to take urgent action to protect the rights of women and girls in the current peace negotiations, and bring an end to the violence in Afghanistan. We are calling on supporters to use December 10th, World Human Rights Day, as an opportunity to come together on a large scale in speaking up for these rights. Let's show the world that Canadians care about, and are standing with the people of Afghanistan.

Together, we can amplify the voices of Afghan women and human rights activists. We're calling for the international community to take action on three key issues:

1. An immediate ceasefire as a precondition to legitimate peace negotiations, and the establishment of mechanisms to bring transgressors to justice;

2. A plan for responsible troop withdrawal that accounts for the real risk of escalating violence and human rights violations if this process is rushed;

3. Protection of women’s and girls' rights, including their unconditional right to education, during and after the peace negotiations, as a core part of the commitment made to Afghanistan by the international community.
