A Message to the CW4WAfghan Network

A Message to the CW4WAfghan Network

We hope that all of you are managing this extraordinary situation we all find ourselves in as best as you can, and we are thinking of the health and wellbeing of all of our members, staff and beneficiaries.

At CW4WAfghan’s Country Office in Afghanistan we have been putting in place measures to protect the health of our staff there, and we are closely monitoring the evolving situation in Afghanistan, where all schools have been closed until April 21, 2020 by government order. Adult literacy classes are also on hold for the moment. Our Darakht-e Danesh Library team is busy gathering Pashto and Dari language resources on COVID-19 from reliable sources and making them available in a special section on the library site. At CW4WAfghan in Canada, already being a fully virtual office, our operations continue as close to normal as possible, with the exception of some major events typically planned in the spring now being cancelled or postponed. We are busy exploring how to mitigate the significant financial impact of this on our programs in Afghanistan, and how to continue to engage meaningfully with members and supporters while observing recommended social distancing practices.

We send warm wishes of solidarity to everyone in the CW4WAfghan network and hope everyone stays healthy and safe during these difficult times. Our mission, as always, continues -- women’s rights hang precariously in the balance during these uncertain political times -- and we are firmly committed to continuing our work to advocate for the women and girls of Afghanistan, and make sure they continue to be able to access high quality educational opportunities. We also draw inspiration from the people of Afghanistan, who have weathered many storms, and we know from experience that when communities resolve to band together and support each other, they are fueled by great resilience. May we all find strength in this resilience.
